An auto-immune disease in which antibodies attack the connections between nerve and muscle, leading to impaired muscle function.
Clinical Features
Most commonly affects females aged 20-30.
Weakness and rapid muscle fatigue, especially towards end of day.
Eye muscles often affected early and may be only area involved, causing ptosis and double vision.
More generalised involvement causes limb weakness, and difficulty with speech, swallowing and breathing
Management
Eye involvement is usually seen initially by ophthalmologist with referral to neurologist
