Arc eye

Description

Ultraviolet light causes damage to the corneal epithelium. Generally due to unprotected welding or from reflections from snow (snow blindness).

Clinical Features

Painful, watering eyes
Photophobia
Mild conjunctival inflammation
Near normal vision
Irregular corneal surface visible with microscope

Management

Usually settles spontaneously within 1-2 days
Analgesics
